Teaching
I am interested in developing and using novel teaching techniques in biology. I recently participated in the Summer Institute workshop on Scientific Teaching, sponsored by the NSF.
I am also the faculty advisor for a science student group called SACNAS: Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Latinos and Native Americans in the Sciences.
Research Interests
Teaching improvement and technology. Former research experience in: plant physiology, fruit development, plant hormones, postharvest biology, plant genetic engineering.
Awards
Center for Teaching Excellence Lilly Fellow in 2006.
Member of the Academy for Excelence in Teaching and Learning at UMCP since 2007.

B.S. University of California, Irvine, 1991 - Biological Sciences.
Ph.D. University of California, Berkeley, 1998 in Plant Biology.
