College faculty members including Arthur Popper, Associate Dean; Edgar Moctezuma, Instructor, CBMG; Michelle Brooks, Associate Director, BISI; Wenxia Song, Associate Professor, CBMG, and graduate students Eduardo E. Zattara (BEES), Paula Casanovas (BIOL), Daniel Serrano (CBMG), and Alexia Nuñes (NACS) attended the annual SACNAS national conference held in October, along with representatives from other colleges, including AGNR and CMPS. SACNAS is a society of scientists dedicated to fostering the success of Hispanic/Chicano and Native American scientists—from college students to professionals—in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership. The CLFS contingent communicated with hundreds of prospective graduate students about educational opportunities in the chemical and life sciences. The college will also be recruiting graduate students at the ABRCMS conference, Nov 4-7 (Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students) and at the NOBCChE Southeast Regional Conference (Nov. 6-7).
