How to become a CLFS major

Internal Transfer Workshops

Undergraduate students at the University of Maryland who wish to add or change majors to one offered by the College of Chemical and Life Sciences must first attend a CLFS Internal Transfer Workshop (ITW).

To sign up for an ITW call or visit the Office of Student Services, 1300 Symons Hall, 301-405-2080 (M-F, 8am to 4:30pm).

What to expect on the day of your workshop

Students who have scheduled for an ITW will sign-in for the ITW at 1300 Symons Hall, the Office of Student Services. During the workshop you will receive an overview of the College and our degree programs, and then meet with an advisor one-on-one to plan out your courses. ITWs typically last between 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the number of students. In most cases your major change will take effect during the start of the next spring or fall semester.

Note for students who want to be Chemistry or Biochemistry majors:

Students who wish to change their major to Chemistry or Biochemistry (or add either as a major) encouraged to set-up an appointment with the Undergraduate Director of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Dr. Mike Montague-Smith, to receive advising on course selection prior to attending an ITW. Students should call the Chemistry and Biochemistry Undergraduate Office to set-up the appointment (301) 405-1791.
