Why Be a 'Terp' at Shady Grove?
Small Classes
The programs offered at the Universities at Shady Grove take pride in providing students a more intimate learning experience. The average class size is about 35 students, which allows for more one-on-one interaction between the students and the instructor and more room for thorough discussion of topics. Moreover, UMCP's biological sciences program at Shady Grove is taught by the same College Park faculty who follow the same curricula and teaching standards as followed in the home campus.
Academic Success
Students not only have access to their faculty during class time and office hours, but also have the facility to utilize the Center for Academic Success (CAS), which is our on-site writing and tutoring center. CAS offers writing assistance, workshops about learning strategies (such as speed reading, test-oriented studying strategies, time-management, etc.), peer tutoring, academic coaching, and a variety of other resources to assist students in reaching their academic and personal goals. High Tech Laboratories
The biological sciences program at Shady Grove has two newly renovated and fully equipped laboratories for learning the latest techniques in molecular biology, immunology, and cell biology.

UMCP's biological sciences program at Shady Grove has been designed in such a way so that students can complete all the classes needed to graduate in one location and without the hassle to commute to different campuses.

Career & Internship Opportunities
Biological students at Shady Grove have access to laboratories for internships, which can lead to several career opportunities.
Library
Shady Grove's state-of-the-art library facilities include over 20,000 on-site references and give students full access to all College Park and University System of Maryland libraries and databases with free book delivery from all USM sites. The library includes computer work stations to search catalogs and conduct online research. In addition, there are group study rooms, a large study area with ports for laptops and other electronic equipment, a comfortable study lounge with couches and abundant natural light, and a mini copy center to print and copy documents.
Computer Labs and Computer Classrooms
The Shady Grove campus has four fully-equipped and updated computer labs and classrooms with the latest hardware and software as well as wireless printing and scanning facilities. The campus has free wi-fi that students can use with their own laptops or on laptops that they borrow from the computer lab or the library through the laptop loan program.
Café
Students studying at the Shady Grove campus also have access to the scrumptious foods at the Green Grove Café that follow a farm-to-fork philosophy and create most products from scratch.
Recreation Center & Student Lounges
The Shady Grove campus has a new gym complete with lockers and shower rooms, a game room with ping-pong and foosball, and lounging areas with television sets and couches.
Top Notch Buildings
Shady Grove's green and beautiful campus provides a great learning environment for students. The newest building, the Camille Kendall Academic Center, received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its marvelous features that help in creating a green and sustainable future.
